She gave Entertainment Tonight a "no" when asked if she would ever reconsider a return to "The View. Sherri Shepherd had some company when she walked out of "The View" studio for good. Freshman co-host Jenny McCarthy also left the show that year, although it may not have been of her own accord.
A source told The Wrap that it was the network who decided not to renew McCarthy's contract after she served just one season on the panel. In , Shepherd became an official co-host of "The View" and spent seven years on the panel. From being questioned about if the world was flat on her first day as an official co-host, to show creator Barbara Walters helping her to find her voice, Shepherd and Hostin discuss it all on "Behind The Table.
It all started when Shepherd was trying to promote "Less Than Perfect" on the show, and was unsuccessful time after time. But when American lawyer and civil activist Johnnie Cochran died in , then co-host Star Jones left an empty seat at the table while she attended his funeral service. Pregnant on bed rest and tirelessly trying to get on the show, Shepherd made the right call at the right time.
If she could get to New York City in time, she could be on "The View," but final call was really up to her doctor. When Shepherd asked her doctor about flying, the doctor reminded her she was on bed rest.
Right up until Shepherd was supposed to walk out on stage, she was in a wheelchair. The next day, she received a call asking her to get back on a plane to do the show again. They gave Kathy Griffin the Friday, and they gave me Thursday. In her seven years as host of the show, the panel only changed once when Hasselbeck and Behar left although Behar quickly returned to the show.
They were replaced by Jenny McCarthy, who only stayed for one season. Her departure prompted McCarthy to leave at the same time. If Sherri goes… I go too.
This is, however, the first time during Season 25 that an old co-host has come to visit for entire week. Usually, old co-hosts have come to visit at the end of the week for special Flashback Friday episodes.
This time around, however, Shepherd will stay Monday thru Friday. Similarly, none of the conservative guest hosts have stayed longer than two days.
