Rating how do you know movie

The writer-director is James L. So let's start with Nicholson. Brooks hasn't given him much to work with. Here he plays a conniving tycoon who doesn't deserve his son's loyalty. It's a heavy role, and there's little to lighten it. In his best roles, Jack always seems to be getting away with something.

He is here, too, but it's not funny. We like to identify with his onscreen sins, and this is a rare time when Nicholson is simply a creep. The best-written and funniest role in the film is for Owen Wilson, as the pro pitcher. You know how his characters can have that ingratiating niceness, that solicitude for you while they're serving themselves? Here he plays a man tone-deaf to the feelings of women and clueless about his own behavior. But he's so nice about it that Lisa agrees to move in, and that provides an opening for what every actress should master, the scene where she repacks her bags and marches out.

Rudd's George is very likable. This is the wrong time for him to fall in love. His world is collapsing, and he finds himself in a cheap rented apartment surrounded by packing boxes. In conjunction with our process of reviewing and rating movies, we take every step possible to ensure that all advertising content is suitable for the particular audience that views it.

We review more than 60, pieces of marketing each year, including theatrical, home video and online trailers, print ads, radio and TV spots, press kits, billboards, bus shelters, posters and other promotional materials. Our goal is to give parents the same confidence in movie advertising that they have in the movie rating system, while also allowing filmmakers to responsibly market their movies to their intended audiences.

The key to movie advertising is compatibility. Advertising for rated films is not rated, nor does the advertising content carry the rating of the full feature film.

With trailers, we consider many factors to ensure their compatibility with the feature; on TV, we consider compatibility to the programming; and with online content, we consider the compatibility and user base age demographic breakdown for the intended online destination.

Apr 11, While waiting for news on whether or not she makes the national softball team she doesn't , Lisa Reese Witherspoon is so distracted by her cell phone ringing that she is hit by a softball in the face but is okay.

It turns out that the phone call is only her friend and teammate Riva Teyonah Parris trying to set her up with a non-athlete for a change. George's status suddenly changes all around when his girlfriend Terry Shelley Conn dumps him when he is investigated for securities fraud. On the other hand, George's father Jack Nicholson stands firmly behind him. So, how do you know you are watching a mediocre romantic comedy? Well, the minute running time is not a good sign, but it is not necessarily a critical flaw, as it matters what you do with the time.

Here, it is nothing good, as the movie just goes around in circles for the most part, with only a couple of truly memorable moments. The first of which revolves around the phrase, "I can't even smile for the bastards, anymore. And even then, the leads are extraordinarily bland. But, bless him, Jack Nicholson still has it. On the plus side, there is a fine use of mass transit which accounts for the second memorable moment. Walter M Super Reviewer.

Feb 06, Bunch of good actors, plus Owen Wilson, go through the motions of James L. Brooks' latest comedy with few and far between memorable moments. Brooks' best work is about twenty years old and this feels like it is trapped in that time period with little understanding of where comedy has evolved today. John B Super Reviewer. Here's the thing: this movie contains hands down the best proposal of all time and it isn't between the lead characters. There are 2 or 3 moments that are simply sublime, including a son managing a relationship with a narcissistic father with a brilliant negotiating flourish. I found the performances clean and convincing: Owen Wilson, Jack Nicholson, Reese Witherspoon and the forever menschy Paul Rudd act in ways that carry more authenticity and thoughtfulness than I'm used to witnessing in a rom com.

Did I mention Katherine Hahn? And the amazing monologue of her boyfriend? If I were an acting student I'd transcribe that speech. While a lot of the movie simply isn't that great, certain aspects possess a striking honesty that makes the characters seem more original. I have never seen a breakup where the person initiating was so generous, grounded and not at all neurotic.

Includes moments of exquisite humanity. Saw this on cable on a Sat nite Light Jan 7, I gave this movie a three because it did have some moments. I thought Owen Wilson was pitch-perfect as the shallow but good-hearted pitcher, and Jack Nicholson was his usual charismatic self.

But what really sunk this movie was the script. Brooks never seemed to care about the central plot, I gave this movie a three because it did have some moments. Brooks never seemed to care about the central plot, involving some kind of securities fraud that is never precisely spelled out, so the audience is completely lost as to what the central jeopardy is. Brooks makes the mistake of focusing entirely on the romantic subplots, so the film feels rudderless and empty.

There were a few laughs What a waste of talented, funny, charming actors. The story is ridiculous and the characters are painfully self-aware.
