Even though I had a fun trip, I took so many showers. I went back to Chicago for a visit in the summer and was so miserable with the humidity. I feel that LA has better housing options in terms of price. In NYC, people literally read the obits to find a place! NYC is still more expensive than LA, hands down. And we have sunshine! New York City is more expensive than LA. Don't know about salaries in NY but the salaries in LA are higher compared to other places. Cost of living is high in LA, but for what my husband is doing he's getting paid very well. I believe California has the highest minimum wage compared to the rest of the country.

Someone had mentioned to me that the work environment is more competitive in NY than LA. El Segundo has many businesses and companies around but you see people are just casual and dress casual. One of our local news put it, people are attracted to the various opportunities and job market out here. Plus the weather! Not only that, there's many things to do and see here.

Once you actually live here you'll find out there's many interesting places to explore. My husband and I are raising 2 kids in Southern California. We live in El Segundo, and it's great place to raise a family. As for schools, one of our high schools in the LA area, El Camino Real, won the Academic Decatholon crown, beating all the other high schools in the nation. Taft is another high school in the LA area that wins this title occasionally.

The other posters have given informative advice of places to live around Sun Valley. If my husband's job was closer, we would have loved to live in Pasadena area. The job offer that I have been given is to work for the same company, so the choice of jobs is purely location. At the moment the move will be just my fiance and myself, but obviously kids are bound to come along in the next few years.

Look into craigslist Los Angeles. However, you may find a gem of a place! In my opinion, there's a lot of people right now looking for a place to rent. We rented it within a few days of when the ad first came out. In my area, there's a lot of no vacancy signs around. If you were to move to LA, my advice to you is research for a place to live. And if you like it, apply for it right away, because one place can have at least 5 applicants or more who really want it..
